Beer Bread
Are you a visual learner? Scroll to the end to watch my YouTube video on making beer bread!
Step 1:
Pre-heat your oven 375 degrees * (see Note 1)
Step 2:
465g Bread Flour or All Purpose Flour (~approx. 3 cups)
1 1/4 tsp Kosher Salt
1 TB Baking Powder
(Optional): Cheddar-Jalapeno Version (pictured on the right)
1 1/2 to 2 cups Shredded Sharp Cheddar (to taste)
1-3 Jalapenos, deseeded and small diced.
In a mixing bowl, assemble the ingredients and mix well.
Step 3:
12oz / 355ml Beer * (see Note 2 regarding hoppy beers)
Pour the beer into the dry mix. Using a rubber spatula, mix the ingredients together until you form a consistent dough.
Step 4 (Optional):
1 Egg
In a small bowl, beat the egg until mixed uniformly.
Step 5:
Using cooking spray or butter, grease the inside of a bread loaf pan. Transfer the dough into the pan and gently shape using the spatula.
If you do not have a bread loaf pan, you can do a more “rustic” version on a baking pan with a hand-formed loaf.
Place on the middle rack of the oven.
Step 6:
Bake for approximately 35 - 50 minutes, checking periodically to suit your level of doneness. You can check this by inserting a small knife into the bread and see if it comes out dry.
If you like a less moist interior, I suggest pricking a few holes in the load with said knife and baking further.
Preparation Notes:
#1: Most domestic oven can run noticably over or under the selected temperature. You may have to calibrate due to this. For example, I have select my temperature to be 5 degrees above the listed recipe.
#2: If you enjoy really hoppy beers, that may or may not translate into a great tasting bread. While I enjoy hoppy beers to drink, I tend to go with milder beers when it comes to making bread. This selection will come down to personal preferences and also the intended guests.
